History of Tammuz

What the Bible says about Tammuz
(From Forerunner Commentary)
  Ezekiel 8:14- 16 CJB

14 He brought me to the entrance of the north gate to Adonai’s house; and there before me were women weeping for Tammuz. 15 “Human being,” he asked me, “have you seen this? You will see practices even more disgusting than these.” 16 He brought me into the inner courtyard of Adonai’s house; and there, at the entrance to the temple of Adonai, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs toward the temple of Adonai and their faces toward the east; and they were worshipping the sun toward the east.

Tammuz is the fourth month of the Jewish calendar, which begins the summer season. The three months of this season—Tammuz, Av and Elul—correspond to the three tribes of the camp of Reuben, which include Reuben, Simeon and Gad, who were situated to the south of the Tabernacle. During the month of Tammuz was when Israel sinned by making the golden calf, which resulted in the breaking of the first set of tablets given to Moses by God. That very day, the 17th of Tammuz begins a three-week period—ending on the 9th of Av—which commemorates the destruction of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. This is also the month that the spies sent by Moses traveled through the Promised Land to see what was there and report to the people. They returned on the eve of the 9th of Av.

Appointed Times

There are no Appointed Times from God in the Fourth Month. However this month is a time to guard your heart and your eyes (Deut. 11:26, 30:15-19).  You should place a special emphasis on WORSHIP this month.  I try to make sure I spend some extra time in prayer under my tallit (prayer closet) and sing and praise the Lord aloud.

Watch your mouth and confess the best the Lord has for you. Agree with His call on your life. Do not speak an evil report. Accept your call and speak forth your destiny this month. A lot of people do not know how to speak out who they are and what they are destined to accomplish and that is why they fall into negativity.

BACKGROUND
The cult of Tammuz centered around two yearly festivals, one celebrating his marriage to the goddess Inanna, the other lamenting his death at the hands of demons from the netherworld. During the 3rd dynasty of Ur (c. 2112-c. 2004 BC) in the city of Umma (modern Tell Jokha), the marriage of the god was dramatically celebrated in February-March, Umma’s Month of the Festival of Background:

Charles Whitaker (1944-2021) author of  The Torment of the Godly wrote: “In verse 14, Ezekiel expresses his “dismay” at yet a greater abomination: “women . . . weeping for Tammuz.” This is another pagan practice, a very sexual one involving ritual prostitution. Ezekiel saw them involved in a rite in which they were mourning the death of a Mesopotamian god whose myth said he was resurrected to new life, a mockery of the redeeming death and life-giving resurrection of the true Son of God. This vision reveals that paganism had deeply affected the women in Israelite society as well.

If you are not careful, you will speak evil reports about yourself and as a result create something evil in the atmosphere.

Hebrew Alphabet: CHET - light radiating from your eyes.

This is the month of the letter CHET, which pictures light radiating from your eyes. The light that we have been working on through the other months needs to be seen in your eyes. I want to live with  the light of the Lord radiating out through my eyes. You have to watch carefully this month because the devil will try to put out the light in your eyes.

Chet (also spelled Ches and Het) is the eighth letter of the Hebrew alphabet. the Numerical value is 8 and the meaning is “Life” according to Chabad.org.

Hebrew Tribe of Reuben

Tammuz is the month of the Hebrew Tribe of Reuben. The tribe was named after the eldest of Jacob’s sons, Reuben, born of Leah, his first wife. The tribe of Reuben apparently settled east of the Dead Sea in the same general area occupied by the tribe of Gad and played a secondary role in the history of the Jewish people. According to the biblical narrative, Reuben, along with nine other tribes, is reckoned by the Bible as part of the northern kingdom of Israel, and disappears from history with the demise of that kingdom in c. 723 BC.

Constellation

Constellation Cancer Art Image by Dorothe from Pixabay.

The constellation associated with the 4th Month is “Cancer the crab”, remove the shell from your body. Declare that every shell around you will break, and you will become vulnerable to the Lord.

Tammuz is linked with the constellation of Cancer, the crab. Can you begin to see why the devil has worked so hard to keep an understanding of the stars and the heavens hidden from us? There are reasons the constellations are called what they are called. This is the month where we take the shell off of our body, which makes us vulnerable. If you do not take the shell off, you become hardened and cannot enter your next level of growth.
