Counting of the Omer 2022 began on the evening of April 17 and ends June 5th. We are counting  the 50 days to from Passover to  the Appointed Time of Shavuot (Pentecost) and making our lives count as we pray for personal outpouring of the Holy Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh) in our daily walk with GOD.

During the first 40 days of the Counting of the Omer Yeshua/Jesus rose from the grave and walked on the earth in His resurrected body; teaching his disciples about the coming of the Kingdom of GOD. He also prepared his apostles for the Holy Spirit that they would receive on the 50th Day and prepared them for the great commission of teaching the whole world about the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

On the Jewish calendar, this period marks the beginning of the barley harvest when, in ancient times, Jews would bring the first sheaves to the Temple as a means of thanking God for the first fruits of the harvest. The word omer literally means “sheaf” and refers to these early offerings.

In my last post, “Yeshua’s Miracles in the Counting of the Omer”  which I highly recommend you read; I discuss how GOD used the Appointed Time of the Counting of the Omer to reveal Yeshua/Jesus as the true messiah and risen savior before thousands of witnesses in Israel.  The scriptures reveal this 50-day period as a countdown to the arrival of the Holy Spirit on the 50th Day.  Just as  Yeshua used this time to teach and prepared His disciples for the baptism of the Holy Spirit in the Upper Room, so we too should prepare ourselves for an outpouring of the holy spirit in our personal lives with daily prayer and deep reflection.

Congregation Beth Messiah in Houston, Texas has an excellent Daily Prayer Guide for the “Counting of the Omer” that I recommend. Here is a link: https://www.cbmhouston.org/omer#counting-the-omer

History shows, GOD chose this Appointed Time for  major blessings on mankind. First, for the giving of the Torah[1] which was given by God on Mount Sinai at the beginning of the month of Sivan, around the same time as the holy day of Shavuot.  Second the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles in the Upper Room and other followers of Yeshua/Jesus while they were in Jerusalem celebrating Shavuot, (the Feast of Weeks, as described in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:1–31). In Christian tradition, this event represents the birth of the early Church.
