What God Wants from You This Month: Preparing for the High Holy Days

GOD has a  special blessing for the believers who honor and celebrate the Holy Days that HE commands us to observe. On the Biblical Calendar and in scriptures, God tells us what days He wants us to come before Him. Sorry, it is not Christmas or Easter!

September is the month of Elul, which is the sixth month on the Biblical Calendar as dictated by God in the Bible. It is the month of preparation for the High Holy Days that begin next month in October or Tishrei which is the 7th month on the Biblical Calendar. Open your Bible and you will find the following:

Elul is the Month of Blowing the Shofar.

The Bible teaches that the shofar is the trumpet of God. The blowing of the shofar is still meant to serve important biblical purposes including: the sound for war, the announcing of the coronation of the King and announcing the fall season of Elul, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot.  Elul is called “the month of repentance,” “the month of mercy,” and “the month of forgiveness”. Who do you need to forgive this month before you go before God during His High Holy Days? To prepare for next month, you should search your soul to make sure that you are in right standing with God. Reflect upon your spiritual walk with God. Are you slipping into darkness? Are you doing the will of God? Does your life reflect your faith? Can anyone see “Jesus / Yeshua” in the way you live your life? Spend some time in prayer. Ask people to forgive you if you have done them wrong.

The people of Israel have an interesting phrase to describe this month. They say, “Elul is the month when “the King is in the field,” all can approach Him, and He shines His countenance upon everyone.  As you begin to understand the meaning of this phrase, you will see how God wants to relate to you during these days. Through most of the year, a king lived in a palace, protected by armed guards and iron gates. To have an audience with a king you had to make an appointment, learn palace protocol, and dress appropriately.

In Elul “the King is in the field”, which theoretically means the king leaves his throne and comes to meet you in your field; wherever your field is– the field of science, field of government, agricultural field, entertainment field, oil field,  field of medicine, etc.

A teaching by Larry Huch Ministries called the “Sounding the Shofar!” gives one of the best explanations. Here is an excerpt from the teaching and a link to his website.

Sounding the Shofar

What makes a person successful? What causes someone to accomplish and succeed in great things? How does a Christian overcome the attacks of the adversary?  There are many principles and guidelines in the Bible we could point out. God has a powerful faith-building and devil-defeating Word for every circumstance! What God has to say about the shofar – the ram’s horn – is a powerful revelation in the bible on how to walk in the blessing, peace, joy, and victory in every area of life!

The shofar, which is commonly known as the trumpet of God has been hidden from most Christians. It’s taken nearly 2,000 years to rediscover its blessings and benefits.

Sounding the shofar you will release God’s anointing and power to accomplish many amazing things including:

  1. Being awakened from any spiritual slumber and out of any spiritual sluggishness
  2. Breaking the power of any deception so spiritually you begin to see clearly
  3. Defeating the enemies that have been coming against you
  4. Reminding you that God’s appointed time for a blessing is approaching
  5. Get you back on track with loving God and loving people

The foundation for this teaching comes from Numbers 10: 9,10:
“When you go to war in your land against the enemy who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the LORD your God, and you will be saved from your enemies.

Also in the day of your gladness, in your appointed feasts, and at the beginning of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; and they shall be a memorial for you before your God: I am the LORD your God.”

As we pray and blow the shofar in our homes and over our families, God promises that you will be remembered, and you will be saved from your enemies. What a powerful way for you to pull down every stronghold and defeat every enemy!

If you’re ready to go to a whole new level of faith and victory you need to add the shofar to the weapons of your warfare.
