It seems everything in life is a struggle
Doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor,
Black or white, male or female
There is always a struggle.
It starts at birth, as a baby struggles his way out of the womb.
His first experience in life is a hard smack on the behind
A painful shock and a wakeup call
A welcome to the somber life of mankind .
From your very first breath, to your very last
There are obstacles to confront and overcome
Everyday has its own battles, large and small
At home, at work; life is troublesome
Does it ever stop?
Why does it exist?
Can I escape?
Is there ever peace?
YES! There is peace and joy and happiness, for a bit
But good times are always interrupted by life’s struggles.
Even people who believe in a higher power must face it.
And they are under the protection of the Most High God.
The faithful weather the storms with spiritual navigation
They gain strength from their prayers, worship and praise.
They are equipped with spiritual weapons of warfare
But they are still attacked and wounded; at every phase.
They are not exempt from life’s struggles.
How I wish to be delivered from it all!
To live care free, pain free, without heartache or worries
Nothing seems to work: vows of poverty, pockets full of money
Positions of power; none of this takes it away.
Life’s struggles are inevitable
My faith strengthens me for the fight.
The road is long; filled with ditches and detours
Today’s victory only means, a peaceful rest for tonight.
