Ninth Month

Kislev

Mid-November to Mid-December
Nov. 21 – Dec. 20, 2025

Counting from Nisan as month number one on the Biblical Calendar, we arrive at Ninth Month which is also referred to as Kislev. The Ninth Month of the Biblical year is between 29 and 30 days and it corresponds to mid-November to mid-December (November 21, 2025 to December 20,2025) on the Gregorian Calendar that we use in the United States today. On the Jewish Calendar this month has been renamed Kislev by rabbinic leaders. The word Kislev (כִּסְלֵו) in the Bible is believed to have Babylonian origins, possibly derived from the verb “kislimu” or “kislivu,” which means to be thick or congealed.
Both names are mentioned in the Bible, before and after the Babylonian captivity. Specifically in Nehemiah 1:-2 – The words of Nechemyah the son of Hakhalyah: It was in the month of Kislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the capital, 2 that Hanani, one of my kinsmen, came out of Y’hudah with some men; and I asked them about the remnant of Judeans who had escaped the exile, and about Jerusalem. (CJB).
and in Zechariah 7:1 – In the fourth year of King Daryavesh, on the fourth day of the Ninth Month, Kislev, a message from Adonai came to Z’kharyah (Zechariah) (CJB).
More biblical dreams are recorded in the Ninth Month than any other month — labeling this month as a season of spiritual insight and prophetic stirring. According to  website, Wellspringisrael.com this is the month when Mary was visited by Holy Spirit and Yeshua was conceived. It says Yeshua (Jesus) was conceived in the Ninth Month and born at the Feast of Tabernacles in the fall during the Seventh Month.
Yeshua (Jesus) is recorded in the Bible as being at the Temple during Hanukkah which occurs in the Ninth Month; adding another element of its spiritual significance. In John 10:22 – 24:
Then came the Festival of Dedication[a] at Jerusalem. It was winter, and Yeshua (Jesus) was in the Temple courts walking in Solomon’s Colonnade. The Jews who were there gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly. (CJB).  In the majority of  scriptures, “the Jews” most often refers to the religious authorities in Jerusalem at that time, not all the Jewish people.
The Ninth Month is the month of light into darkness because it occurs during the winter solstice when days are short and nights are long, but this month is brightened by the lights of Hanukkah and the holiday lights of Christmas when Christians followers of  Yeshua(Jesus) celebrate His birth.  These two celebration are only days apart on the Gregorian Calendar in the month of December. However, technically, on the Biblical Calendar, Christmas occurs in the first few days of the Tenth Month. (More on Christmas in my next post)
For the Jewish believers celebrating Hanukkah, the Ninth Month is the month of hope because during this month the Maccabee fighters regain control of the Temple from its enemies and returned it to Israel.  In Book 1 of Maccabees in the Apocrypha it speaks of these Jewish zealots “who were passionate for the Torah, followed the ways of the Lord, and they could no longer compromise with the oppressive Greek influence of idol worship”.
These fighters rescued the Temple and Jewish tradition says, “there was just enough oil to light the golden menorah lampstand for one day until more olive oil could be pressed. God performed a miracle and sustained the lamps light for eight days”, thus creating the celebration called the Festival of Lights, aka Hanukkah.

Historical Commemorations

Purim
Hanukkah

There are no Appointed Times by God in the Ninth Month, however, Purim (Esther 9) and Hanukkah (John 10:22) are later historical commemorations, not commanded in the Torah but observed by in Jewish tradition. Also, Jubilee and Sabbatical Years (Leviticus 25) are also sacred cycles tied to divine timing.

Hebrew Letter:
Samech (ס),

The Ninth Month is linked to the Hebrew letter Samech (ס), which means “support” — a time to lean into divine strength.
The letter Samekh is the 15th letter of the Aleph-Bet, having the numeric value of 60. The pictograph for Samekh looks something like a shield, whereas the classical Hebrew script (Ketav Ashurit) is constructed of a circular shape with a squared left corner signifies completeness. The root word associated with Samech, “sam” (סַם), means potion or medicine, highlighting its connection to both physical and spiritual health. Additionally, the letter Samech is linked to the idea of support and rest, as seen in its root verb “sa-mak” (סָמַךְ).

Hebrew Tribe of Benjamin

The Ninth Month is associated with the Tribe of Benjamin which was skilled with the bow and arrow, symbolizing spiritual warfare and intercession.
This tribe was the most gifted with the art of the bow and arrows in battle and with the slingshot and stones. Benjamin was the only son of Jacob born in Promise Land.

God gave exact instructions for what stone was assigned to each tribe and where that stone was to ne place on the Breastplace of the High Priest. We see this description in Exodus 28: 17 -21
17 Put on it settings of stones, four rows of stones: the first row is to be a carnelian, a topaz and an emerald; 18 the second row a green feldspar, a sapphire and a diamond; 19 the third row an orange zircon, an agate and an amethyst; 20 and the fourth row a beryl, an onyx and a jasper. They are to be mounted in their gold settings.
21 The stones will correspond to the names of the twelve sons of Isra’el; they are to be engraved with their names as a seal would be engraved, to represent the twelve tribes.
