Prayer for Day of Atonement

You are currently viewing Prayer for Day of Atonement

Dear GOD

We examine ourselves on this Day of Atonement which you have sanctified as one of Your appointed times.  As followers of Yeshua the Messiah we know that we are cleansed from all sin through the blood of Yeshua. And we stand and intercede for those who have sinned.

FATHER, where we have fallen short, we confess our sins and receive the cleansing of the blood of Yeshua. For YOU have said, Therefore, there is no longer any condemnation awaiting those who are in union with the Messiah Yeshua. 2 Why? Because the Torah of the Spirit, which produces this life in union with Messiah Yeshua, has set me free from the “Torah” of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2

Through the power of your spirit, it is true that we need not practice sin. One who practices sin as a way of life is not a disciple of Yeshua. We meditate on Your Word and receive Your cleansing and are set free! For by grace, we are saved through faith. Yeshua’s crucifixion on the execution stake is the power of God unto salvation.

  1. You are to have no other gods before me.

Lord, have I put anything or anyone ahead of you? Have I worshipped anyone or made an idol of anything on this earth? Have I valued material things more than I have valued You and Your Word? Have I loved You with my whole heart? Have I been legalistic or narrow?

  1. You are not to make for yourselves a carved image or any kind of representation of anything in heaven above, on the earth, beneath or in the water below the shoreline. You are not to bow down to them or serve them; for I, Adonai your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sins of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but displaying grace to the thousandth generation of those who love me and obey my mitzvot. (commandments)

Lord, are there soulish attachments in my life? Have I become attached to what is not in Your will or attached in a way that is not Your will for my life?

  1. You shall not take the Lord’s name in vain. You are not to use lightly the name of Adonai your God, because Adonai will not leave unpunished someone who uses his name lightly.

Lord, have I used your name lightly? Have I promised in Your name and reneged? Have I said the Lord told me: when You did not so speak? Have I said I will pray about it, with no intention to pray or with no real fulfillment of my word?

  1. Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy.

Lord, have I made the Sabbath day a day of spiritual renewal and fellowship as you intended? Have I failed to honor the Sabbath because my job, sports, or social events? Have I not believed your promise to provide for my needs if I would take a time of rest on the Sabbath? Have I lived outside of a heart of peace through faith in Yeshua the Lord of the Sabbath. Have I not genuinely committed myself to fellowship and spiritual growth in a congregation of your people?

  1. Honor your father and your mother so that you may live long in the land which Adonai your God is giving you.

Have I been thankful for my parents who strive to teach me what is right? Do I show them respect and provide for their needs in their old age. FATHER, have I forgiven parents and mentors who have wronged me? Have I received your inner healing and ability to forgive and be a new creation in the Messiah?

  1. You shall not murder.

Lord, have I hated someone in my heart? Have I spilled innocent blood? Have I supported the murder of the unborn? Have I had a vengeful or critical spirit? Have I failed to love my neighbor as myself Have I failed to love my enemies? Do I love my brothers and sisters and lay my life down for them.

  1. You shall not commit adultery.

(MARRIED) Lord have I been faithful to my spouse? Have I lusted in my mind or heart for someone other than my spouse? Have I treated my spouse as the Messiah treats his congregation?

(SINGLE) Have I kept myself pure for your service?

  1. Thou shalt not steal.

Lord, have I been righteous in the area of possessions? Have I been honest in giving the tithe to my congregation, paying taxes, and been generous as a steward of your property? Have I given my full effort to my employer? Have I used my gifts and talents to further your Kingdom in every realm of life?

  1. You shall not bear false witness.

Lord, have I been honest in my words, truthful in handling evidence? Have I been involved in slander or gossip? Have I been truthful in my promises? Have I followed your direction of covenant in not speaking about others who have sinned outside the redemptive directions taught by Yeshua?

  1. You shall not covet.

Lord, have I desired the possessions- houses, cars, material wealth of my neighbor? Have I wished for fame, relationships, or the job positions of my neighbor? Have I desired anything else outside of your will for me?  Have I allowed you to change my heart by abiding in Yeshua, so my desires are the same as Your desires?

Therefore, our real need is to follow Your instructions, to be renewed in our minds, to abide in Yeshua, and to bring our flesh into submission through the power of Your Spirit. This we now purpose to do.

Today, we receive cleansing and forgiveness this Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) in Yeshua’s blood. In Him we are free from condemnation and declare ourselves as the “righteousness of God” through Yeshua the Messiah in whose name we pray.

Amen
