Iyyar is the second month on the Biblical Calendar and it contains almost half of the 50-day period called the Counting of the Omer. On today’s calendar this roughly the first two weeks of May. This is a very significant time in the lives of the followers of Yeshua / Jesus for these reasons:
-
Yeshua / Jesus rose from the dead at very begining of the Counting of the Omer.
-
The Risen Savior walked the earth teaching his disciples and appearing to many witnesses for a 40-day period during the Counting of the Omer.
-
On the 40th day of the Counting of the Omer which this year is May 6, 2021 ( Iyyar 24, 5781) Yeshua /Jesus told his disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the gift the Father had promised then He ascended to Heaven.
-
On the the 50th day of the Counting of the Omer which we call Pentecost; the disciples and other followers were waiting in the Upper Room praying and celebrating Shavuot (Feast of Weeks). This is one of the Three Pilgrimage Festivals commanded by God, which commemorates the anniversary of the giving of the Torah by God to the Children of Israel at Mount Sinai. Jews from all over the world were in Jerusalem to celebrate this Holy Day.
-
On Pentecost the Holy Spirit of God came down to dwell in the followers of Yeshua/Jesus and they were empowered with the Spirit!
